Monte Sant’Angelo, a town in the province of Foggia, is famous for the San Michele Arcangelo sanctuary, which became a World Heritage Site in 2011, as part of the serial circuit “The Lombards in Italy. The places of power (568-774 AD)”. The Sanctuary was a privileged worship and a destination for the people who wrote the history of the medieval Mediterranean. In the territory of the Gargano Centre, is located part of the Umbra Forest, a protected natural area of the Gargano National Park. Its name originates from the fact that the forest is shady and gloomy. Since July 7, 2017, its ancient beech forests have become part of the UNESCO heritage.
